Puttin a ps2 game on a 8oGB ps3 ?

The other day i inserted a ps2 game into my 80GB ps3 and it wouldn't read it . i now know that you can't put ps2 disks in 80gb ps3 model but what i really want to know is if it might of corrupted my laser somehow. by the way it still reads disks
