Why do I have so much dust in my apartment?

I live in an upscale apartment home,in which I RENT.I pay a heavy lease and have 3 others in my building.I dust about once a week and vacuum about the same.I bought a cheap bag less vac and now I have notice after I vacuumed my husband did again and OMG.. there is so much DUST!?
